Southern Colombia in Photos

We breezed through the South of Colombia pretty quickly, which is a shame because it is, in my opinion, the prettiest part of the country. Here are the highlights:

Salento

Salento is in the heart of the Zone Cafeterra, the coffee region of Colombia. It rained most if the time we were there so we never did get to see a coffee plantation, but I still enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and the colorful town.

Popayan

One of my very favorite spots on Colombia! Popayan is mainly known for being on the way to the Ecuadorian border, but it’s also a really beautiful town, known as “the White City,” because of all the white washed buildings and churches. The old town was just gorgeous.

Las Lajas

One of Colombia’s little surprises. Just 20 minutes outside of Ipiales (the border town with Ecuador) is this massive, gothic style cathedral, set dramatically in a gorge. Very popular with tourists and pilgrims alike. It was Sunday when we visited and the church was packed for mass.
