September is a great time to travel because most of the kids are back in school but the weather is still really nice. You can get some really nice last-minute deals and not have to deal with the huge crowds of people. Here are 5 places to go away for your September getaway.
Explore the Greek Islands
There are 6,000 islands to explore in Greece and a great way to see them is to charter a boat and go island hopping. The Greek islands have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and you can find beaches of different colour, some with sand, pebbles, and some with rocks. There are also rock formations, stunning cliffs, ancient ruins, and fabulous local food and locally made wine. Mikonos, Santorini, Rhodes, Lesbos, and Corfu Island are just a few of the places you can explore. When you’re planning your trip, make sure you consider renting villas on the different islands, this way you can take a break from island hopping and spend some time relaxing by the pool. You can also go to the nearby beach and go snorkelling, water skiing, and swimming or just sunbathing as the weather is still nice for your September getaway.
Venice is built on a series of islands that are all connected by bridges or canals. Brightly coloured buildings line the canals and it is a beautiful place that is like nowhere else on earth. Be sure to experience the thrill of a gondola ride on the Grand Canal. Take a tour of The Murano Glass Factory and see how the world-famous Venetian glass is blown. No visit is complete with visiting the beautiful Basilica di San Marco.
Travel to Churchill Manitoba
September is a great time to experience the thrill of seeing polar bears in their natural habitat. There are around 1,000 bears in the area and the chances of seeing them are pretty good. There are custom built buggies with tires that are 1.5 metres tall so that you are taller than the bears should they choose to stand up.
You can also see interesting things like trees that only grow on one side due to cold northerly winds, or in early September you may catch a glimpse of Beluga whales before they leave. A September getaway is also a great time to experience the thrill of seeing the stunning northern lights. Make sure that you dress warmly as the average temperature for this time of year is about 5 degrees Celsius.
Go on a Safari in Africa
The Great Migration begins in the early spring in The Serengeti but September is a great time to watch the thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the river on their way to southern plains of the Masai Mara. The animals are followed by their predators so you will also get a chance to see lions, leopards, hyenas, and crocodiles. A September getaway is one of the best times to go on a safari, as you’ll avoid the wet season.
Traverse Castle Trail in Scotland
Castle Trail is located in Aberdeenshire which is about two and a half hours from the capital city of Edinburgh. The trail covers around 500km and it has 14 castles that you can visit and explore the buildings and their grounds. You can join a guided tour or follow the trail of well-marked signs that the trail consists of. September is a good time to explore Scotland, as it won’t be too cold, but there will be less tourists as the children will have gone back to school. Also, if you visit in late September, you’ll start to see the leaves on the trees changing colour.
