Can you believe I’d never been to Hawaii before this year? Actually you probably can. Despite being one of the 50 states, Hawaii is pretty freaking far away and expensive to get to, especially if you live on the East Coast. In fact, it was just one of 4 states I’m missing (Mississippi I’m coming for you next).
BUT, lucky for me, we moved to the West Coast, and all of a sudden it wasn’t so expensive ($450 round trip!) or far (6 hours non-stop from Seattle). So, when Mike decided to attend a WordPress conference in Maui over Valentine’s Day, you better believe I invited myself along. And maybe hijacked the entire trip until it was a weeklong vacation complete with whale watching, beach going and road tripping.
It’s what I do.
Not surprisingly, I loved Hawaii. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s beautiful, laid back, warm and just utterly wonderful. I fully intend to go back and explore other islands, but I’m really glad that Maui was my first. I’ll be writing a few posts about our time there but I thought I would start with an overview of what makes Maui in particular, pretty marvelous.

Yesssss. My first Hawaii trip was Maui. I’ll be heading to Honolulu in June so it’ll be cool to see more of the state.
I love Maui! I am heading back to Hawaii for my third time and visiting my fourth island: Kauai. I think so far my favourite island is a tie between the Big Island and Maui but I also really love the north shore of Oahu. Really, pretty much everywhere in Hawaii is amazing ๐
Those rainbow trees are SO COOL! I’ve only been to Oahu in Hawaii… Maui will definitely have to be next!
Love seeing so many familiar sights! I love Maui and will be going back in December using my Skymiles bonus points to fly for free!! Can’t wait to see those whales again. And I think I might try scuba diving, as terrified as I may be. Looking forward to hearing more about your time there!
I LOVE Hawaii! Im going back for a month in September and I think I’ll have to go with Maui again!
Never been to Hawaii. I was planning on making a stopover from OZ, but I think I will wait until I’m rested and ready to explore again. Maui looks amazing! It’s on my list!
Looks absolutely gorgeous! I adore going to the beach and haven’t made it to Hawaii myself, but I live in the Philippines so I’m pretty tropical at the moment haha

That sashimi looks seriously amazing. I LOVE sashimi nothing tastes more healthy, refreshing, or delicious. It’s hard to believe anyone would dislike raw fish. I’ll have to make it out to Hawaii one day! It looks so lovely!
AMAZING PICTURES ๐
The couple getting married on the beach looks too romantic to be real! It feels like its straight out from a wedding advert!Living in london and seeing pictures of such beautiful beaches and sunsets makes me really jealous! Lucky you! ๐

These pictures are GLORIOUS. I am always thinking about Hawaii in the back of my mind, but you’re right. East coast? So expensive to get there. But with shots like those, you’ve got me thinking about it again!
