Passport Milestones

It’s such a small milestone that I almost missed it, but it’s one worth marking:

Today my passport turned 5 years old!

I remember applying for that baby, backin in the Spring of 2006. I needed it so I could study abroad in London for a semester, a move I had hoped might get the wanderlust OUT of my system for good.

I could not have been more mistaken. That first stamp in my passport, September 2006, was really the start of so much more. Now it’s 5 years and twenty-something countries later and just last month I had 24 extra pages added to my book- the old pages were almost full!

London, Fall 2006
Prague, Fall 2006
Rome, Winter 2006
London Again, Fall 2007

Sarajevo, Spring 2008
Dubrovnik, Croatia, Spring 2008
Madrid, Spain, Spring 2008
Iceland, Spring 2009
London yet AGAIN, Fall 2009
Japan, Fall 2010
Australia, Fall 2010
Vietnam, Winter 2011
Cambodia, Spring 2010
China, Spring 2011

I can’t wait to see what stamps accumulate in here over the next 5 years. The writer and the optimist in me just loves all those blank pages waiting to be filled up.

If you don’t have a passport- get one. Even if you don’t have any travel plans yet, just go ahead and get it. A passport is so much more than a government document- it’s a booklet of oppurtunity.
