I’m behind on posting this week so in lieu of a Friday Postcard I thought I would do a bigger post with pictures from my overnight tour of the Mekong Delta. This will forever be known to me as the trip where my camera finally threw in the towel (I didn’t drop it this time! It went electrically haywire). But at least it spit out some pretty great pictures before it did:
The Mekong Delta is the rice basket of Vietnam- a lush, fertile place where pretty much everything, from houses to markets, floats. It’s exactly the kind of Vietnam you would imagine (when you’re not thinking about war). Even the most hard working people are quick with a wave and a smile. In short: it’s gorgeous.
Those donuts were delicious by the way. And don’t worry, the camera has already been replaced- by one of those “unbreakable” Olympus models. Hopefully it will serve me well as I continue to document the unending beauty of the earth…
Seriously, if I had to see how rice paper was made ONE more time when I was in Asia, I swear… Every tour I went on.
Seriously! Does anyone really care about this?
I love that first shot of the flower! So pretty.
I wish I had of made it down into the mekong delta during my time in Vietnam. I mainly stayed up south, never really going below central Vietnam and the DMZ. Such a beautiful place, and these photos make me want to go back. Even though its pretty touristy, I highly recommend visiting Sapa if you get up there.
I hope I make it to Sapa! Vietnam is a really big country I am learning- it’s hard tod o it all.
This is definitely high on my must-see list when I go to SE Asia on a one-way ticket in just over 3 weeks. Nice photos!
exciting!
When I visited the Mekong last year, I was amazed by how life just strived there. The busy markets, growing orchards, and people living in the most unexpected of places. It was a great experience for me to see all that. And yes! Everyone is willing to stop what they’re doing and smile at you!
They all clearly work REALLY hard but they are always quick with a smile and wave! I love it.
Love the waterlily shot, and this perspective on the Mekong, a river we love.
Believe you me, lady, there is no such thing as an unbreakable camera. Fingers crossed the Olympus holds out for longer….
Haha, I’m sure you are right!
Great photos! I love the one with the little boy and girl peeking from the boat. So adorable!
The kids here are SO curious and friendly. And cute. I can’t get over it.
Love these pictures… and I’m getting hungry staring at the last one.
even better- they were only 20 cents each!
The donuts look good. We ate a lot of street food in the Mekong and loved all of it. It was some of our favorite food in Vietnam actually.
I am just in love with Vietnamese food in general- constantly surprised.
These are so brilliant. I love the shot with the flowers (photo 6).
Thanks! Apparently hte Mekong Delta is the flower capital of Vietnam or something like that.
