We breezed through the South of Colombia pretty quickly, which is a shame because it is, in my opinion, the prettiest part of the country. Here are the highlights:
Salento
Salento is in the heart of the Zone Cafeterra, the coffee region of Colombia. It rained most if the time we were there so we never did get to see a coffee plantation, but I still enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and the colorful town.
Popayan
One of my very favorite spots on Colombia! Popayan is mainly known for being on the way to the Ecuadorian border, but it’s also a really beautiful town, known as “the White City,” because of all the white washed buildings and churches. The old town was just gorgeous.
Las Lajas
One of Colombia’s little surprises. Just 20 minutes outside of Ipiales (the border town with Ecuador) is this massive, gothic style cathedral, set dramatically in a gorge. Very popular with tourists and pilgrims alike. It was Sunday when we visited and the church was packed for mass.
Wow. Columbia is quickly moving up my list of must-see countries!
It’s definitely a cool place!
Thanks for posting!!! So excited to see it in person!!
That cathedral is AMAZING!
It’s such a random thing to find on the border of colombia and ecuador!
Ditto re: the cathedral; WOW!!
Makes me a little excited to finally get there. 😛
Wow, awesome photos! That cathedral is especially pretty!
LOVED the south of Colombia, especially Popayan. Mucho!
Beautiful — I must get to Popayan and that church near the Ecuador border in 2012 🙂
Yes, fabulous pictures! Everything’s so colorful and happy! That cathedral in Las Lajas is INSANE(ly awesome).
Wonderful photos!
